Overview
SURGICEL Powder Absorbable Hemostat is an oxidised regenerated cellulose (ORC) powder, with 3 grams prefilled in an applicator, for dispensing to a target bleeding site. It is used in surgical procedures to assist in the control of capillary, venous and small arterial haemorrhage when ligation or other conventional methods are impractical or ineffective. The powder is used on bleeding surfaces, and it is not for dry, non-bleeding surfaces or for prevention of bleeding.
It can be applied in laparoscopic or other endoscopic procedures when used with the SURGICEL Endoscopic Applicator, which delivers the powder through a 5 mm or larger trocar. The applicator tip supplied with the powder is not intended for laparoscopic or other endoscopic use. The haemostatic effect is greater when the powder is applied dry, and excess powder is removed with irrigation and aspiration without disturbing the clot. Product codes include 3013SP and 3123SPEA.
