Overview

The BCM Body Composition Monitor is a device for assessing fluid status in dialysis patients. It uses bioimpedance spectroscopy to separate excess fluid (overhydration) from the lean and adipose tissue components of the body. The measurement is non-invasive, and the measuring process itself takes approximately 10 seconds.

It was designed to support fluid management in patients with end-stage renal disease and can be used with haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and paediatric patients. It uses a volume model that calculates total body water, extracellular water and intracellular water, and it also supports the assessment of nutritional status. The urea distribution volume it provides can be used as an input on the Online Clearance Monitor of most Fresenius Medical Care haemodialysis machines, for dialysis dose assessment.
