bibag is an online dry bicarbonate concentrate supplied in pre-filled bags, as a lightweight alternative to liquid bicarbonate containers. When the bibag disposable is secured to the bibag connector on the dialysis machine, the sodium bicarbonate powder is mixed with water to form a saturated solution. This solution is then proportioned with water and acid to achieve the prescribed dialysate.

The bags come in 650 g and 900 g sizes and need less storage and preparation space than liquid bicarbonate. The bicarbonate dissolves directly at the machine, and the lightweight packaging removes the strain of lifting heavy liquid bicarbonate containers. The bag is flexible and recyclable, and the connection is designed to avoid dripping when disconnected. It is used with Fresenius haemodialysis machines fitted with a bibag connector, including the 4008S.
